A life on disability

A life on disability benefits is generally a life of poverty, social isolation, and stigma. It can lead to poor health, lower life expectancy and poor physical and emotional health.

Work is good for everyone

Work can strengthen a felling of competence and provide purpose and meaning to life.
Work provides socialization and a feeling of being valued and needed by others.

Unemployment is not good for our health

People are helped to get on but rarely off of disability benefits. The underlying message is “you are incapable”. Long term unemployment and underemployment is associated with negative health outcomes.
